To be the best coach that you can be for your team, there are some vital and important things that you must take into consideration.
The most important thing is not only to win, which to many coaches is all the game is to them. The team members playing to the best of their abilities is what matters more than winning the game- though that is a nice plus. By a player playing as best as he can will help him to improve his game more than by actually winning the game.
Be firm but fair with your players. To be the best coach you can be, you must be firm with your team, make them go through the proper Basketball Drills until perfect, but you must be fair with them. You can be nice to the players, but when it calls for it, you must be stern and firm. Don’t hesitate to say things as they are and help the players to improve and do better. Never resort to negative and hurtful comments, but be positive and helpful with your criticism.
Motivating your team is essential to the player’s game. Without it they are no different from those who play ball on the weekends. The best Basketball Plays and players have been born through the proper dose of motivation, and only motivated players will play the best game ever, and those coaches who use motivation as a habit will be sure to bring their team the trophy.
Playing basketball is not just a sport, but something that can be used in their lives. The basketball techniques and plays that you teach your team are important for them to learn, make no mistake, but more importantly are the life lessons you teach them on top of all the other stuff. You should share life lessons to them that they can use in the world outside of basketball such as determination, dedication, honesty, integrity, and never giving up.
It’s all about the Team Many coaches simply help each player to find their talents and skills, something that leads to superstars. Something a good coach teaches his players is how to work together as a team, a valuable ability that leads to dream teams. The Chicago Bulls had one of the best teams of all times, thanks to the super-skills of players like Michael Jordan, Scotty Pippen, and Dennis Rodman. However, without the fact that Phil Jackson bonded the superstars into a dream team, the Chicago Bulls would not have been able to win six championships on 8 years.
Favoritism is bad. Good coaches focus on the strengths of all team members and not just a select one or two. A good coach knows a team works better when all pulling together. Do not raise your voice or use force to scare your players into doing things. That will only cause anger between the team members and possibly case dismemberment.
Encourage your players to do their best and give positive encouragement rather than negative criticism. Help them to feel that they accomplished something at the end of a game.
