Basketball Shooting Techniques All Players Should Use
Shooting is central to basketball, and learning how to get better at it can be challenging. Only when you combine sharp focusing abilities with the right form, can you become a great shooter. You also have to remember that you can’t learn to shoot properly without paying your dues by practicing continuously. If you want to get better at shooting, the following tips will help you, as long as you practice them and keep them in mind on the court.
There’s a basic idea you should always keep in mind when playing basketball, and it applies to many other sports as well- following through on all your shots. Follow through is an all-important principle that you can see in skilled hitters in baseball, tennis players, billiard players and anyone else who plays a sport where a ball has to be sent in a certain direction. The best players in all these sports, like the best shooters in basketball, know how to make the most of each shot or swing so that the ball goes where they want it, with the right amount of force. Whenever you shoot, whether during a game or when practicing, pay careful attention to your technique and even exaggerate the follow through. Take your time when practicing, keeping your shooting arm (or arms) held in place for a moment after the shot. Follow through ensures that the ball isn’t just thrown upwards, but in a manner that sends it in the right direction in an arcing motion; that’s why players are often told to throw the ball using a waving movement.
Free throws, also called foul shots, are something everyone needs to practice. Since it’s just you and the ball without any one guarding you, these shots are the purest form of shooting. While this should, in theory, make this type of shot the easiest, many players have difficulty with this, largely due to problems with focus and getting nervous. Relax as much as possible, get your balance, and focus your eyes on a spot above the rim. Try to make the ball travel in an arc and remember to follow through with the shot.
The good thing about free throws is you can practice them anytime you’re on a court.
By visualizing, both on and off the court, you can improve your shooting abilities. Several documented studies have been done where basketball players’ shooting skills were measured before and after visualizations. Surprisingly enough, it’s been shown that players can improve their shooting performance as much by visualizing as by actual practice! Now, you shouldn’t use this as an excuse not to practice, as that’s very important as well. Why not gain the best of both worlds by practicing and visualizing? You can practice visualizing making perfect shots whenever you have a spare moment. Making basketball shots is something that you will improve upon if you make the effort and work on your form. These tips will be very useful to you when you begin practicing and decide which things you will eventually work on. But, you also have to think about your personal areas that need improving. If you have problems with a particular move, instead of overlooking it, work on it until it gets better. Even the best players in the world cannot stop practicing and must continue to work on their shooting skills to continue moving on up. Oh yes, don’t forget to put on proper attire for the game. Most crucial of all, slip on a pair of good quality basketball shoes. It can be of any brands such as Jordan basketball shoes or Nike Air basketball shoes, just be sure the shoes you put on will give you highest protection for both your feet mainly because you will be leaping and moving fairly frequently throughout the entire game.
