2011 Southern Cal Basketball Outlook by Jack T. Jones
Recap
Southern Cal experienced a mediocre year in 2010-11 having a 19-15 record and a 4th place finish inside the Pac-10.  During the conference tourney USC made it towards the semifinals, then proceeded to go down in the play-in game of the tournament to VCU.
Southern Cal experienced success by becoming an excellent defensive group. Â Southern Cal held their opponents to under 41% from the field shooting and to less than 64 points each game.
The loss of Nikola Vucevic and Alex Stepheson will be hard to replace. Â Vucevic averaged 17.1 points each game and brought down 10.3 boards every game. Â Stepheson was the team’s 2nd leading rebounder at 7.2 every night and also contributed 9.8 points.
2011-12 Overview
Kevin O’Neill has been the Trojan head coach for a couple of seasons and has given the supporters teams that play hard and improve as the season goes on. Â This season’s team has a lot of contributions to replace, but O’Neill does have Jio Fontan, Maurice Jones, and Garrett Jackson all back. Â Together with a sound freshman class the Trojans brought in transfers Aaron Fuller and Dewayne Dedmon.
Backcourt
USC is going be heavily depending on their backcourt duo of Fontan and Jones. Â Fontan sat out fall semester last season, but returned to pace the team in assists and finished second in scoring at more than ten points each game.
Jones was third on the team in scoring with 9.9 points per game, dished out 110 total assists, and established the university record with 69 steals as a freshman.  His achievements helped to earn him a spot on the conference All-Freshman squad.
Bryon Wesley is a 6’5″ freshman guard who is anticipated to contribute on the offensive side immediately. Â Alexis Moore is a different freshman who really should see time and contributes effectively on both sides sides of the court. Â Junior college transfer Greg Allen can be a excellent defender and can shoot 3.
Frontcourt
USC’s 3 inside guys ought to be Aaron Fuller, Dewayne Dedmon, and James Blascyk. Â Fuller was compelled be out last year soon after transferring over from Iowa. Â In his sophomore season in Iowa City he was honorable mention on the All-Big 10 team with 9.7 points and 6.7 boards every game.
These players will probably be pushed in practice by a couple of transfers who will sit out this season. Â Ari Stewart and Eric Wise transferred from Wake Forest and UC-Irvine, respectively.
