St Patrick’s Day: A Parade In Boston
Boston, Massachusetts offers no shortage of Irish events this year, including their world-renowned St Patrick’s Day parade. Whether you’re in the mood for Irish pubs and grub, Irish parades and festivals, or Irish museums and historical walks, you will find Boston has everything you need. Before you take off, it’s best to plan where you’ll be and at what time well in advance, since St. Patrick’s Day is a bona fide holiday here.
The best place to stake out your spot for the Boston St Patrick’s Day parade is somewhere near the Broadway T Station, where the parade begins. The Sunday parade starts at 1 pm, but you’ll need to leave yourself several hours to get down there and grab a good spot. The parade route will move through South Boston’s historic district, down West Broadway to East Broadway, to East 4th Street, to 5th Street, around Thomas Park, to Telegraph Street, to Dorchester Street and ending at Andrew Square.
In addition to the Boston St Patrick’s Day parade, there are a number of other festive Irish events in the month of March. For instance, The Pogues will play a jazz/punk/traditional Irish music concert at the Orpheum Theatre on March 11th, with all of their full original line-up. Also, the world-famous Dropkick Murphys Irish punk band from Boston will end up playing seven sold-out shows at the House of Blues from March 12th – 17th, so you’d better get your tickets early! You can also check out a new exhibit at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library & Museum entitled “JFK and Space,” which opens on March 17th. You’ll see how President Kennedy mobilized the nation’s greatest technological geniuses to be the first to put a man on the moon. If you love comedy, make sure you check out the St. Patrick’s Day breakfast and roast of local politicians at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Hall on March 14th, hosted by State Senator Jack Hart of South Boston.
